GLENDALE, Ariz. -
The family of a 22-year-old woman killed in Glendale is speaking out tonight.
Glendale Police say the victim's death is connected with domestic violence.
They're grieving, but they also want to make other young women aware of the dangers of being in an abusive relationship.
"We miss her dearly; she was the one that made us all happy, that made us all laugh," said a family member.
The family of Deanna Aguilar spends these days remembering happy memories but admit it is difficult to do so knowing the 22 year-old was brutally murdered.
"My granddaughter being murdered in such an ugly way by someone she thought loved her, but really didn't care for her, could not have if he did that to her," said the victim's grandmother.
Glendale Police arrested Alex Felter; he's been charged with second-degree murder. They say he called 911 to report a shooting at his home, when they arrived officers found him standing outside the home. Inside the body of Deanna Aguilar, she had died of a gunshot wound and police say Felter shot her.
"I never used to like to use the word hate, but I'm having a hard time not using it... I hope he has to know that he has to feel what we're feeling every day that he doesn't get to see his family, and he's back behind bars," said a family member.
"And I hope he lies like an animal in there," said another family member.
They are hoping Deanna's tragic death makes people more aware about the issue of domestic violence.
"The signs are out there; these young girls just need to pay attention, possessiveness, jealousy, keeping them away from family members... that is not love; that is a controlling sick person," said Breanna Gallegos.
Deanna was buried next to her brother who died two years ago. But her grave remains unmarked, the family does not have the money to pay for a headstone. They are trying to raise funds, if you'd like to help you can donate at: http://www.gofundme.com/bpzjd0
