"We are putting as many people on the street as possible and working diligently to solve this matter," Midlothian's police chief Hal Kaufman said.

Kaufman says investigators have identified a pattern in the attacks - all have occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. They believe the suspect is a man in dark clothing, mask and hood.

Unfortunately, no one has been able to get a look at the attackers face to generate a sketch.

Officers are comparing witness statements and analyzing DNA evidence. Meanwhile, officials say people should always be aware of their surroundings.

"I would prefer nobody to be walking alone right now, at night especially. Keep your eyes and ears open. If you see anything, suspect anything, call us immediately," Kaufman said.

The city says they are offering rides from the Metra station to ensure the safety of residents.
