*UPDATED* APD is asking for your help in locating little girl
A little girl has gone missing and Austin Police Department Detectives are seeking the public's assistance.
An AMBER Alert was issued Friday evening for 2-year-old Cheyenne Johnson. The missing child is described by police as a white female with brown hair and eyes, weighing 23 pounds and 2 ½ feet tall. She was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt with flowers and navy blue shorts at 1:54 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 in the 1800 block of Anita Dr.
Police are also on the lookout for suspect Jesse Thomas. Thomas, a white male 6'01', 220 pounds and in his mid-thirties, was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt and blue jean shorts. He was driving a black 2005 Mercury Marquis 4 door with Texas license plate DN3F648. The vehicle has 22 inch silver rims and damage to the rear bumper. They left the scene northbound on Anita Drive.
Police say the father's parental rights were terminated in a court hearing today. The grandmother was awarded full custody. It was at her house at 2pm this afternoon that Thomas broke through the back door, and kidnapped his daughter.
According to Detective J.J. Schmidt, "At 5:15, the suspect was spotted at a UHaul facility at 1032 E. 46th Street. Officers tried to make contact, as he saw them approaching he came at the officers with his vehicle, left at a high rate of speed, a short pursuit ensued. Terminated due to heavy traffic. He hit speeds of over 100 mph with the child in the vehicle."
That dangerous action is what triggered the AMBER Alert. Officers say Thomas has a violent history. He's currently out on bond for aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.
Individuals who may have information concerning Johnson's or Thomas' whereabouts are asked to call 9-1-1. This case remains under investigation by the APD Missing Persons Unit.
