Some soon-to-be high schools are causing quite a controversy over boys and girls athletics.
Three male volleyball players are trying out for the Seminole High School girls volleyball team. Why? They say because they've been playing at Seminole Middle for years, and the high school doesn't offer an opportunity for them.
"We actually looked around at a different high school, and it's just not affordable," said father Michael Peterson. "Club is expensive. Some of the other kids – they were really great players. I've worked with them since they were 5 or 6 years old. It's just not affordable. Not every family can afford to do this. I was hoping the high school would have it."
There's obviously varying opinions about letting the boys play with the girls – though the vice versa has been done before. Right now, student-athlete Trevor Kennan said they're hoping this brings awareness to their problem.
"We're trying out for the girl's team," he said. "We're just hoping to get boys' volleyball in high school. Try to start a team."
