PHOENIX (KSAZ) -  A 52-year-old man driving a scooter was killed early Saturday morning near Broadway and Ellsworth.

A spokesperson for Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says a red sedan was heading down Broadway at about 7:40am Saturday when the driver failed to stop for a red light.  The sedan crashed into a scooter that was waiting in the median lane, and then wound up crashing into a light pole.

The driver of the scooter died on the scene.  The woman driving the sedan was flown to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The intersection was shut down while deputies investigate the accident.  Drivers have been advised to use other routes.
