Police: Boater Disappearance May Have Been Staged

EGG HARBOR TWP., N.J. - Egg Harbor Township Police believe the disappearance of a boater in July may have been staged.

Police say they are investigating Andrew Biddle, 45, for numerous criminal acts of theft and fraud. Biddle is a married father of three of children. FOX 29 has confirmed that in internal correspondence detectives say they believe Biddle may have staged his death or disappearance to escape prosecution.

“Really nice guy. Every time I would come here he'd be quick to say hello how are you how's everything with the family,” said Frank Gorham.

Gorham says he's known Biddle for 7 years. Gorham has worked for the boat salesman and racer on and off at the Sea Village Marina where Biddle and his partner base their company professional boat sales.

“Big shock it's crazy one moment you're talking to someone, the next minute they're gone like that,” he said. “I don't think he did that. I don't think he staged it. I really think he's missing.

Biddle was recently reported missing on July 21st after his pontoon boat hit the rocks on the bay near 11th avenue in Longport. The other boater, Justin Belz,23, swam to ashore; however, Biddle was not found. Authorities later recovered Biddle’s sneaker.

Multiple helicopter and boat crew searched for Biddle for about 18 hours. On July 22nd, the Coast Guard suspended the search.

FOX’s Sabina Kuriakose went to Belz’s home, a woman there declined to comment.
