CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man who drove his car into a swimming pool Thursday morning in Barrington Hills has been charged with DUI, Pioneer Press reports.

Just after 4 am Thursday, July 31, Bikramjit S. Sian, 30, of Schaumburg, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 or greater after he drove his vehicle into a pool at a home on Longmeadow Court.

Sian was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

According to a Barrington Hills Police Department press release, Sian, who was unharmed in the accident, initially told officials with the police department and the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District that there were three other occupants inside the vehicle. However, when police officers entered the pool, they determined that there Sian had been the sole occupant.

Although Sian was not injured in the crash, he was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center by the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BHPD). Officials were able to pull the 2006 Honda coupe out of the pool.

The homeowner whose pool it was first called police when she saw headlights in her backyard, then pulled Sian from the vehicle after it went in the pool, according to BHPD. The pool was not being used at the time and no one outside the pool was injured, officials said.
