Tom Horne's tires slashed: AG's office to investigate

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Who would slash Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne's tires?

That is what the AG's office is investigating. It's no secret that Horne has a lot of enemies, but is it political or personal.

Horne was the first to admit he is a very controversial figure and he's made a lot of enemies along the way. He's running for re-election to remain Arizona's highest ranking law enforcement officer. At the same time, he's being accused of breaking campaign laws. Now he thinks someone was out to hurt him.

"The two front tires were slashed in a way you wouldn't notice. But when you got on the highway they would blow at the same time," said Horne.

And that may be the least of his worries. With the primary election weeks away, slashed tires may be a minor bump on his road to election.

FOX 10 asked Horne about the allegations raised against him and if any of those people may have done it or want to hurt him. "I don't know, part of what you're observing is, and I don't include you in this, but the liberal press is out to get me, there's no question about that," said Horne. FOX 10 then asked him, playing devils advocate on the "liberal press" side, is this a publicity stunt to get sympathy. Horne responded; "No, I didn't expect to make this public, I think that was Stephanie's idea."

Stephanie is Tom Horne's spokeswoman. She didn't schedule any on-camera interviews when Governor Brewer snubbed Horne and endorsed Mark Brnovich for AG. Despite that Horne remains confident.

"So when the establishment is against me I seem to do very well," said Horne.

And he's taking the tire-slashing incident well, saying he doesn't know who but he understands why.

"I've been a very controversial Attorney General, in fact, my whole career I've done things, so I've made many enemies," he said.

Horne did not file a police report but says his office is investigating.
