Posted: Updated:

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) --Tempe police say a man shot by police has died.

Police say 25-year-old Jonathan L. Williams died Sunday. Williams was shot by an officer late Friday at a motel after Williams allegedly began shooting at other officers who weren't injured.

According to Smith, police were called to a disturbance at the Motel 6 on Scottsdale Road at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Williams allegedly assaulted his 24-year-old girlfriend at the same motel on Thursday and had returned.

Authorities say Williams fled from police in the lobby and pointed a handgun at them.

They say Williams fired his weapon and was then hit by an officer returning fire.

Police say nobody else was in the lobby at the time.

The officer who shot Williams is on paid administrative leave.
