CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

In a brazen daytime robbery, thieves hit a family owned Lincoln Park Jewelry story and made off with what one police source said was more than $200,000 in cash and jewelry.

It happened at 1:12 p.m. Friday afternoon at Hotltzmann’s jewelers in the 2400 block of North Clark Street. Police said the thieves were armed with weapons, and forced a man and a woman working there to go into the basement where they were tied up and left.

The suspects, described by police as two African American men and one African American woman, may have left fingerprints behind, as evidence technicians were seen dusting for prints inside.

The store's website said that it's owned by brothers Michael and Patrick Holtzmann and Patrick’s wife Pamela. It's not clear who was inside at the time, and no one from the store wanted to comment on what happened.

Sonja Arnensen lives right next door.

“It makes me very uncomfortable, I've lived in this area for two years and always felt very safe,” she said.

There are no police cameras in the area, so officers canvassed nearby businesses looking for security video that might help identify the robbers. They took a copy of video from a nearby bar hoping it might have captured images of the suspects passing by.

The manager of a nearby salon said about two years ago a trio matching the suspects' description came in and were captured on security video canvassing the store for items to steal after asking to use the bathroom.

“It makes me very nervous, actually I'm not here all the time, my girl is here, and she said she's always nervous to see, she said everybody looks decent so who do you not let come inside,” said Veena Gheewala, manager of the Sanaya threading salon across the street.

Police said no one was hurt in the robbery.

For every shooting on Chicago’s streets, there are role models trying to make the neighborhoods safe for kids. Some kids join boxing clubs, and the safety and discipline they find there makes a difference.

It's been months since the last snowflake fell, but Chicago residents are still hitting potholes that make your teeth chatter. Which is why one Southside resident was puzzled when construction crews began repaving a road that virtually no one uses.
