Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation

Turn 2's free baseball clinic for kids

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

School is out, and kids are looking for something to do. More than 100 children from all over the five boroughs found it in Flushing Meadows Corona Park with Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation baseball clinic.

Staffers put the kids through their paces with fielding and other drills, always encouraging them to try their best. There was more on the training schedule than physical activity. ER physician and motivational speaker Dr. Sampson Davis was a hit with the kids.

The Turn 2 Foundation was founded by Derek Jeter and his family 18 years ago. It has helped thousands of inner-city children. Many go on to college. Jeter has said it's about giving back and opening doors.

Foundation president Sharlee Jeter, Derek's sister, said she and her brother are committed to keeping the programs going long after he hangs up his Yankees pinstripes and that the leadership training for the kids will be Derek's living legacy.

New York City subway riders are getting back service on the G train between Brooklyn and Queens. The return of service comes as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority reopens a tunnel Tuesday that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The Greenpoint tunnel has been closed for five weeks for repairs. Shuttle buses were provided between G stops in Queens and Brooklyn during that time.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
