Aaliyah movie stalls again

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

It's been nearly 13 years since Aaliyah's funeral at at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York. Now there are growing questions about why her life story still hasn't been told.

The singing and dancing sensation was just 22 years old when she and 8 others died in a plane crash in 2001.

Former "Dancing with the Stars" finalist and Disney star Zendaya was slated to play Aaliyah in a Lifetime TV movie, but just a few weeks after it was announced she pulled out.

Jennifer Peros of Us Weekly says Aaliyah's family may have played a role.

At 22, Aaliyah was enjoying a breakout year. She had dropped her third album and was beginning a film career. I had the chance to interview her, and saw right away how protective her family was. Now that protection extends to her image and music legacy.

Aaliyah's fans feel it's time for her story to be told.

Zendaya tweeted that she just didn't feel the TV movie was 100 per cent ready to go and that if there is another Aaliyah project, she will be first on line to play the role.
