Suspected serial arsonist said to have admitted to fires

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Arson investigators say they have a dangerous suspect in custody that may have set hundreds of fires in Detroit over time.

The suspected was arrested at the vacant house fire on Robinwood near Woodward, the last of the five fires he's suspected of setting.

Fox 2's Taryn Asher reports he has admitted to all five fires that happened overnight.

Investigators had the suspect under surveillance. Sources tell Fox 2 he was at every arson that was set overnight.

Once in custody, we're told the man admitted to setting those fires and hundreds more over the years because he was angry and was holding a grudge against the Detroit Fire Department.

He claims his brother was electrocuted years ago when he was 10 years old and firefighters wouldn't let him see his brother.

Asher went back to Robinwood and neighbors tell her the suspect was squatting there for many years and he admitted to them that he was setting all of these fires, some of which were even on that street.

The suspect, we're told, is in his 40s, he is expected to be formally charged Tuesday.
