FOX 29 Announces New Good Day Co-Host

We are very excited to announce that Mike has a new co-host. After an extensive nationwide search, we are happy to announce that award winning anchor-reporter Alex Holley will be joining Mike Jerrick on the Good Day Philadelphia desk at the end of the Summer. Mike made the announcement this morning on Good Day. And in typical Mike fashion, he couldn’t contain his excitement.

Alex will be joining Mike, Sue Serio, Kacie McDonnell and the rest of the Good Day Philadelphia team starting September 1st. Holley comes to Fox 29 from WMBF-TV in South Carolina, where she served as a reporter and anchor for the station’s morning news program. Prior to that, she worked as an anchor, reporter and producer at KOMU-TV in Columbia Missouri. Holley also served as anchor for the news site, Newsy.com.

"I'm so excited and I just can’t hide it! Seriously, I am thrilled to welcome Alex to the ‘Good Day Philadelphia’ team as my new partner! She is smart, witty and funny and I know Philly is gunna love her,” said Jerrick.

"Bringing the latest news alongside the extraordinary Mike Jerrick will be a dream-come-true experience. I look forward to spending mornings working and laughing with the talented ‘Good Day Philadelphia’ team. Get ready Philly-- can't wait to meet ya!" added Holley.

Alex is very proud to be a University of Missouri (MIZZOU) Tiger, where she graduated from the first, and one of the best, journalism schools in the nation. She has a double minor -- Sociology and Spanish. While at the University, she was voted the University of Missouri's Homecoming Queen. Alex also created an award-winning community service program for students called "SWIPES Make a Difference". She uses that service spirit even today as she volunteers with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

One of Alex's favorite hobbies is travel She is a world traveler. Since birth, she has explored over eleven different countries. She is proficient in Spanish, having studied at the Universidad de Salamanca at age 13. This global exposure helps add a versatile dimension to her stories. Alex uses her knowledge of different places to enhance the perspectives to her stories.

As part of our Good Day Philadelphia announcement, Mike offered the following ‘facts” when it comes to Alex:
  • She has traveled to 12 different countries.
  • She loves listening to R&B oldies, Teddy Pendergrass is one of my favorites.
  • Alex has been a Homecoming Queen twice. (high school and college)
  • Alex is an only child, but she says "if you ask me, my parents are like my sister and brother. "
  • When she was younger, Alex tried out for the children's show "Barney" and made it to one of the final rounds.
  • Alex stands just over 5 feet tall.
  • She played basketball for most of her life, but then had to switch to track because of what she called her "height limitations".
  • You can see a picture of Alex on the 3rd floor of the Newseum in Washington D.C., in the digital journalism Display.
  • She absolutely love avocados. A salad isn't complete without them.
  • Growing up her nickname was "Holleywood".
  • Her favorite candy: Reese's.   Ice Cream: Blue Bell Ice Cream- Pecan Pralines and Cream. 
  • Her favorite drink: Margarita! With salt.
  • Alex’s favorite color is all shades of purple.
  • Alex is a 3rd generation member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Grandmother- 1944, Mother - 1973
  • She loves drinking hot tea. “I try to have a cup everyday. I especially love going to tea rooms for "High Tea".
  • One of her favorite TV Shows: Frasier. “When I was younger, it was partly because I felt so sophisticated whenever I understood the jokes.”
  •  Alex said “I can’t wait to join Mike and the great Good Day Philadelphia team. She said it’s an honor to join such a wonderful TV family.”
