A prostitution ring is busted, rescuing 167 children including three from the Austin area.
The three-day operation with FBI and local law enforcement led to the rescues and the arrests.
FBI officials say awareness is key to keeping children safe from sex trafficking.
"No doubt, the key for us is public awareness. This is a topic that in many of our communities, in many of our neighborhoods, people do not like to discuss, and they think of it as being associated only in other countries, but not here at home in the United States, or in Austin, or in the San Antonio metropolitan areas," FBI Special Agent Daniel Powers said.
Since the inception of law enforcement's sex trafficking initiative in 2003, over 3,000 children have been rescued from prostitution and at least 14 federal life sentences have been handed down.
