Three-time Grammy nominee Ed Sheeran performed for a small group of fans at the Empire State Building Friday morning before surprising his nearly 10 million Twitter followers with a show at Rockefeller Plaza in the afternoon.
"I've never just done an impromptu gig where you tweet it out 15 minutes before so I was quite impressed everyone showed up," he said.
This all happened before he took the stage at Ellis Island in the evening. He is building anticipation for the release of his new album "Multiply" on June 23, 2014.
"'Multiply' is the best songs I've written and the best production behind them," he said. "It's a good piece of work."
Pop star Taylor Swift picked her favorite song on the album before anyone else. He wrote the songs while on tour with her.
"I think Taylor's favorite was 'Sing," he said.
Ironically, an Uber taxi driver also weighed in on the writing process.
If he had any spare time on this 24-hour whirlwind in the big apple, Ed said you'd probably find him chilling at West Village pub Fiddlesticks.
