End water bottle confusion with earth-friendly H2O ID

Posted: Updated:
NORTHVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) - Is that your water bottle or mine? It's a nagging question that led to a colorful new business.

The Velcro bands are known as H2O ID. They're the brain child of Cassandra Gut of Northville, Mich., a veteran in the luxury fashion industry who recently left New York City to come back home to Michigan and pursue her creative idea.

"You buy bottled water for convenience sake and that's the life that we're living, and and in grocery stores now there's a water aisle, which is amazing to me," she says.

But what was missing was a way to find your water bottle when they all look the same - at the gym, a family picnic or even a child's birthday party.

Of course, you could just write on the bottle itself, but Gut believes her alternative is better.

"Some people have that way and that's by choice. Great if that works for you, but they say if there is a lot of condensation on the bottle it does rub off," she says.

She worked for years to design the bands in a rainbow of fun, fashionable colors using a biodegradable foam that will break down in landfills.

"You just write your name with a Sharpie marker, permanent marker, and wrap your bottle. It's as easy as that," Gut explains.

H2O ID works with any bottle, from reusable water bottles, to baby bottles to a dinner glass.  A system is in the works to customize them with school, gym or corporate logos, or any design you can imagine.

The company offers a party pack of 24 ID bands in six different colors for $48. Gut says that's her biggest seller right now.

They also come in three packs and six packs, or can be purchased individually online.

The bands can be washed with soap and water and reused over and over again. It's an idea that Gut hopes will end water bottle confusion and prevent waste, "because people are not going to take the chance and just drink out of a bottle that they're not certain is theirs or not," she says.
