HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Elgin woman died in a fiery crash early Sunday after her cab was rear-ended by an SUV on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates.

The crash happened at 5:09 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-90 near Beverly Road, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Nick Hasan said. The woman either stalled or attempted to back her cab up into traffic, Hasan said. The cab was then rear-ended by an SUV, causing it to burst into flames, Hasan said.

Melba R. Farr, 56, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Farr, of the 500 block of Littleton Trail in Elgin, was the only person in the cab, authorities said. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, Hasan said.

No citations were issued, Hasan said.
