Brother charged in 2011 killing of Bronx teen

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a Brooklyn man they long suspected of killing his brother in the Bronx three years ago has been charged with murder.

They say 25-year-old Gavin Williams was also charged Saturday with manslaughter and strangulation in the May 2011 death of Alex Williams.

Police say they found 18-year-old Alex Williams unconscious inside the bedroom of a Bronx Boulevard apartment. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

A police spokesman says they initially suspected Gavin Williams but needed time to build their case.

Brooklyn's final pitch to hold the 2016 Democratic national convention was centered on New York City's robust mass transit system -- and a pledge to learn "from the mistakes" from the last time the city hosted a presidential convention. The Republicans gathered in New York in 2004 to re-nominate President George W. Bush, choosing to meet in deep-blue Manhattan less than three years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
