San Diego, CA-An alleged drunk guy attempted to get into what he thought was his own home but made a very detrimental mistake.
Police say the man tried to break into this home on Rutgers Avenue thinking it was his own home.
It happened just before 9 Saturday night. The man started banging on the front door.
The homeowner was inside with his wife and 7 year-old son.
"He was able to talk to the man who was demanding to be let inside - saying he was trying to get inside his home. Homeowner said you got the wrong house...you need to leave," said Chula Vista Police Lieutenant Dan Peak.
But he didn't, police say the man went through a side gate and tried to break-in a sliding glass door in the back.
The homeowner, armed with a handgun, shot the intruder once in the leg.
Police say before the incident the 41-year old man had become very drunk during a party at his house right next door.
"At one point, he walks some friends out that's when he became disoriented and then went to the wrong house. He thought someone was playing a mean joke on him...this is my house...yelling for his wife to let him in," said Peak.
Police say the neighbors did not know each other adding to the confusion.
"From what I understand, both parties were upset...he understood what happened. Was very apologetic...understood why the homeowner took the action he did," said Peak.
