In less than 24 hours, Austin police along with Austin-Travis County EMS responded to 15 incidents of potential overdoses on synthetic marijuana known as “K2”.

According to EMS the first call came in Wednesday morning, then calls ramped up throughout the afternoon and evening hours. The last call came in around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Fifteen patients in total, all from the downtown area, have said they have purchased and ingested this synthetic form of marijuana known as K2. Some have reported suffering injuries, seizures, and falling unconscious. Some have become combative after waking up.

APD Narcotics is investigating to determine if the K2 was laced with any other substances and where the substance was obtained by the users.

Police urge anyone who is approached by someone trying to sell these drugs to call 911.
