Del Valle Elementary officials say an unloaded gun was found on campus Tuesday morning.
Officials say a 9 mm gun was located in a student backpack. It was quickly taken by the student’s teacher.
School officials say there is no evidence of a threat to the campus.
The student’s identity is not being released due to student privacy laws.
In a letter sent home to school parents, Del Valle School Principal stated the following:
“I want to use this opportunity to remind our Del Valle Elementary School families about the dangers of keeping weapons in places to which children have access. It is illegal for any adult to make a firearm accessible to a child. If you have a gun in your home, please lock it up; don't trust that your child understands the dangers. Please talk to your children, as well, about the importance of notifying school personnel should their school environment not be safe.”
