2 hospitalized after Sunday morning shooting downtown

Posted: Updated:
APD says it happened around 2:40 Sunday morning.
They say 2 shooting victims were taken to Brackenridge.
One is in critical condition, the other in serious condition.
When officers arrived they took a third person into custody.
No names or motives have been released yet.

Austinites like Caitlin Cramblet are getting sick of the crime.

Caitlin works downtown and she feels like it's getting worse.

"I saw actually 2 people get taken away in ambulances last night from fight related injuries right here on Sixth Street so there's a lot of pent up aggression apparently," she said.

While at work, she recently saw a woman who had just helped a stabbing victim.

"She came up to my bar and she had blood all over her hands and was like 'Can I wash my hands in the bathroom?' she said.

John Prather is a downtown musician.  He hasn't had any problems in the 7 years he's been here but he has friends who have been through it.

"In a city like this where there's a lot of people, you're going to have a lot more of the bad apples going around.  And you'll have them all concentrated here in downtown," Prather said.

Some are a little bit more optimistic.

"I'm a small girl, I've never really felt unsafe.  I feel like it's a pretty safe city," said Tara Hughes.
