CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Cartersville Firefighter Josh Pruitt, 25, has completed a 274 mile journey, on foot, to honor and financially support the families of fallen firefighters.

His cause: The Georgia Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A statewide non-profit that provides financial and emotional support when a firefighter is lost during the course of service. For his part, Pruitt plans to hike the 'Long Trail' of Vermont. An avid outdoorsman, Pruitt says this physical effort demonstrates service, reflection and awareness of his cause.

His goal is to raise $10,000 for a formal uniform loaner program. This unique program will allow smaller, often all-volunteer departments to have "Class-A" or formal dress uniforms to wear during services to honor fallen comrades. The expensive uniforms are often a luxury most smaller departments simply can not afford.

As of this article posting, the fund had reached $1,800 of the $10,000 goal. If you would like to donate to the cause, click here. Pruitt says 100% of the funds donated will go directly to the foundation.

For Pruitt, the foundation is a calling. A brotherhood. A group of individuals that support public service heroes in their darkest hour. Through this journey, Pruitt hopes to bring more awareness to this foundation that is so meaningful to his profession.
