A SWAT situation in San Marcos ends with one man in custody.
It started with a report of an unruly guest at the Comfort Suites hotel.
San Marcos Police responded to 104 I-35 North at about 8 a.m. Tuesday. According to hotel management, the guest had caused extensive damage to one of the hotel rooms.
"Upon arrival, officers made contact with the individual, who then barricaded himself inside," said Commander Kelly Earnest, with the San Marcos Police Department. "After that, we went about evacuating the entire hotel and also advising additional neighboring hotels of the incident, just for safety reasons."
This is a very busy section of San Marcos. Luckily, no one was injured, except for the suspect.
"The officers had negotiated with this individual for about two hours...and we forced entry once the individual broke contact with us," said Earnest.
The Hays County-San Marcos SWAT team used gas to help get 32-year-old Reggie David Vine out of the building. They found ammunition inside his destroyed hotel room.
Earnest said, "At this point, we have one person in custody for a felony warrant."
Vine is charged with a probation violation on an original charge of evading arrest in Tarrant County, which is in the Fort Worth area. He's also charged with criminal mischief for the damage he caused at the Comfort Suites Hotel room.
Investigators say they still don't know what caused him to be so unruly in the first place.
