TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say officers fatally shot a suspected bank robber as he headed back toward the bank after getting a box of ammunition from his vehicle.

According to police, officers alerted by an employee's 911 call about a robbery in progress Thursday afternoon arrived to see a man matching the suspect's description walking out of the bank with a handgun.

Police say he ignored commands to stop and drop the gun and instead went to his SUV, got a box of ammunition and began walking back to the bank's front door.

Police say officers shot the man because of the danger to people inside the bank.

The identity of the 35-year-old man hasn't been released.

No officers were injured.
