Special delivery, 7,000 dozen eggs donated to valley food bank

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Eggs are to Easter what trees are to Christmas. On Thursday, a local food bank received an "egg-cellent" donation for it's clients, making the upcoming holiday all the more meaningful.

A special delivery this Easter season as a semi truck from Hickman's Family Farms dropped off a load of fresh eggs at Saint Mary's Foodbank in downtown Phoenix.

"They've gone from our farm, through our processing, and now are here in the cooler in a matter of 24 hours," said Kim Curr with Hickman's Family Farms.

Hickman's donated 7,000 dozen eggs; that's 84,000 individual eggs to feed those who need a little extra help this Easter.

"We are the only farm that actually has shell eggs in Arizona so when we say it is a local fresh egg it truly is because these are all animals that are reared, housed, and raised in Arizona," said Curr.

Hickman's produces 5 million eggs a day, during the Easter season that number increases to 100,000.

"They can be using these this afternoon, this evening, that quick," said Curr.

Saint Mary's is one of eight food banks in the nation to receive an egg donation. Grateful no doubt to help as many people as they can.

The donation was made possible by a partnership with America's Best Eggs, Hickman's, and Dunkin Donuts.
