Reward offered in murder of homeless man

Posted: Updated:

Police are trying to find those responsible for killing a well-known homeless man.

Austin police say the body of 53-year-old Bart Hollis was discovered at about 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, inside a drainage culvert, in the 2500 hundred block of west Parmer Lane.

An autopsy report shows Hollis died of blunt force trauma to his body.

Detectives say Hollis was a well-known person among the large homeless population in the Mopac-Parmer Lane area.

So far, they've been unable to confirm reports of an altercation before his body was found.

Sergeant Brain Miller with APD Homicide, said, "He's a local homeless individual who resides in the Parmer area for the past ten years. A lot of people know him and he seems to be well-liked in the area as well."

Austin homicide detectives are asking for your help to try and solve this case.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to conviction of the person.

If you have any information on the case, please call APD.
