Eye-opening weather statistics for Chicago

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The late season snowfall of April 14th opened many eyes across the Chicago area. As if we haven't seen our share of heavy snow this season.

Chicago received 1.4" of snow bumping up the season total to 82.0" which is still 3rd on the list of snowiest seasons on record for Chicago.

Midway also picked up 1.4" of snow bumping the season total to 88.2".

The record for the greatest amount of snow for a season still stands at 89.7" which was set back in the 1978-79' season.

There have been only 11 other calendar days on or after April 14th to have at least 1" of accumulating snow. The most recent time was April 16th, 1983. The latest is May 3rd, 1907.

This was only the 5th time on record that Chicago had 1" of snow after already reaching its 1st 80 degree day of the year which occurred Saturday April 12th. The last time this happened was in 2003.

The calendar day high on April 14th was 63 degrees at O'Hare. Never in the period of record for Chicago had there been a day with a high temperature over 60 that also had at least ½" of snow.
