Man with many piercings denied entry to Dubai

A heavily tattooed German man whose face is embellished with horn implants and more than 100 piercings said Sunday he was refused entry to Dubai without reason, forcing him to skip a planned appearance at a nightclub.  His look may have been a step too far for the Gulf's most liberal city, where a carefully cultivated reputation for tolerance and cutting-edge cosmopolitanism occasionally clashes with the region's conservative Islamic values.

The odor of smoke from a brush fire in southern New Jersey can be smelled as far away as New York City, some 90 miles away.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City until 11:00 p.m. on Monday due to the issue. Active children, adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma, were told to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

The fire has burned more than 1,600 acres, or about 2 square miles, along Batsto Road in Wharton State Forest. It was first spotted around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, when the humidity was unusually low.

Assistant Division Forest Fire Warden John Rieth says chilly air early Monday pushed the smoke down, so it could be smelled in areas away from the fire, including in parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The fire was contained by about 4 p.m. Monday. The fire did not damage any structures and did not cause any injuries.
