A man faces murder charges after allegedly stealing a truck and crashing into a vehicle with a pregnant woman inside on Thursday. Police say the woman's unborn child has died.

Michael Angelo Delacruz was driving an reportedly stolen pickup truck near 9th Avenue and McDowell when he crashed into a vehicle with two women inside.

The driver and the front seat passenger, who was 27 weeks pregnant, were taken to a hospital.

The pregnant would had to have emergency surgery due to complications with her unborn baby.

Police say the baby has died as a result of the crash.

Delacruz and his passenger allegedly fled the site of the crash and tried to break into a car at home nearby.

Police say Delacruz ran on foot away from the area and left his passenger behind. She was taken into custody and later identified Delacruz as the driver.

Officers eventually caught up with Delacruz after a foot chase.

Police say Delacruz was taken to a hospital because he had signs and symptoms having drugs in his system.

Delacruz allegedly tried to escape from the officers who were keeping guard at the hospital.

According to police, Delacruz told them he had been using meth "all day" before the crash.

According to Delacruz, he tried to escape from officers at the hospital because he "wasn't ready to submit yet."

He was arrested and faces charges of second degree murder, failure to stay with death, aggravated assault, aggravated DUI, unlawful means of transportation, escaping felony custody and a probation violation.
