Massive horse head statues unveiled at Bryant Park

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The latest public art installation in New York City won't be hard to find.

Two,15 -foot tall Clydesdale horse heads made of hundreds of pieces of steel made their debut Friday  morning in Bryant Park.  They are the creation of world renowned artist Andy Scott.

The horse heads are replicas of the world's largest pair of horse statues found in Scotland known as The Kelpies. Their name comes from the mythological water horses of the region.

The replicas were installed overnight in the park and will be on display through April 22.

"I wanted to create something that represented the history of working horses. At one point they would be the prime mode of locomotion through the canals of Scotland and all the local industries  I wanted to make a tribute to these magnificent beasts . I had a couple of Clydesdales come to my studio as my models and what you see is the result," said Scott.

The statues made two previous stops in Chicago and Indiana before arriving in NYC for Scotland Week, April 3-8.

"I wanted to create a dynamic, a tension between the two one being passive and at rest and the other more lively... in Scotland from every angle you see it you see the other sculpture,"said Scott.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
