A new health warning is out about the rare but real possibility of nicotine poisoning by drinking from the nicotine vials used in the e-cigarettes.

Around the country, emergency room doctors have been treating toddlers who accidentally ingested and teenagers who drank it on purpose.

Dr. Manny Alvarez, the Fox News senior managing health editor, says that nicotine is a very potent drug that can increase heart rate it, change your blood pressure, and even cause death.

E-cigarettes have battery-powered cartridges that heat up flavored liquid nicotine that produces a nicotine vapor. They have grown in popularity as many use them to try to stop smoking by slowly reducing the amount nicotine they inhale. Those vials are brightly colored and flavored.

Some lawmakers around the country working to improve federal and state laws to regulate e-cigarettes and make them safer, such as requiring child-proof caps on the vials or banning "vaping" in public places.
