CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One of the most dangerous intersections in the city of Chicago is about to get a makeover. The Navy Pier Flyover is designed to ease congestion for pedestrians, drivers and bicyclists on the lakefront path.

The flyover will carry the Lakefront Trail on an elevated path over the Chicago River and streets near Navy Pier, the most popular tourist destination in the state.

The intersections where Grand Avenue and Illinois Street meet Lake Shore Drive are two of the more crowded spots this project hopes to make safer.

Construction begins next week and will be done in three phases. The $60 million project will be completed in 2018.
