Travis County residents warned against jury duty scam

Travis County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a fraudulent scam concerning jury duty.

According to Travis County officials, several residents have reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the Travis County Warrant Division. The caller advises the resident they missed jury duty and now owe a fine.

The caller then informs the resident they must pay the fine with a prepaid debit card or a money order. If the resident agrees to pay with a pre-paid card, they are instructed to call back with the number on the card. If they agree to pay with a money order, they are advised to send it to an address.

Travis County Sheriff's Office says they do not collect fines by phone or pre-paid cards. If you receive a similar call,

Anyone who receives a similar call is urged to report the incident to the Travis County Sheriff's Office or local law enforcement agency.
