DETROIT (WJBK) -

An abused, 4-year-old Maltese mix was found in a garbage can on March 9 near Grand River Avenue and Warwick Street in Detroit.

The Michigan Humane Society was called to the scene when a passer-by heard whimpering coming from the trash can.

The dog was found with the handle of a bag twisted around its neck and was covered in severe urine burns, suggesting the dog had been confined in a small area for a long time before being put in the garbage can.

The dog will continue to undergo medical treatment by the MHS, who is hopeful the dog, now named Edgar, will make a full recovery.
