Hundreds of Ausinites are cashing in on SXSW by renting out their homes to visitors. But before you let strangers into your home there are some things that you may want to take into consideration.
Melissa Walker from Protect America suggests running a background check on the tenant before they move in and get a credit card, as well as their information so you can reach them at any time.
Also remove any jewelry or valuables before renters arrive. Walker says what you cannot take should be locked up in a safe or in closet with at deadbolt lock. And she adds it's a good idea to have a home security system, which allows the homeowner to give the renter temporary codes that would expire after SXSW and you can monitor what is happening while you are not there.
