Parenting expert Jo Frost on toddlers and tantrums
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Parenting expert Jo Frost knows a thing or two about child rearing. The former nanny has spent 25 years guiding parents and supporting early education advocacy. She is probably best known for her hit shows including Supernanny, Extreme Parental Guidance and Family S.O.S.
She's witnessed just about every child-parent behavioral scenario including one of the most familiar: the child who throws a tantrum.
"Don't give in to tantrums that will just become worse," says Frost.
It's important for parents to immediately assess the situation. How to handle the tantrum depends on the type of outburst.
"Is it a mock situation where they just want what they want? Or is it a situation that you have to leave the park or birthday party? Or is it a situation that is emotional—such as ( a reaction to) a loss of a pet or new addition to the family—where they are trying to emotionally adjust," said Frost.
She breaks down how to respond to the various scenarios in her new book, 'Jo Frost's Toddler Rules: Your 5-Step Guide to Shaping Proper Behavior.'
Frost will be signing copies of the book on March 6, 7 p.m. at Books and Greetings at 271 Livingston St., Suite G in Northvale, New Jersey
