The city of Austin is getting federal money for the Onion Creek, Lower Colorado River Basin project.
The city will see nearly $12-million. The money will be used for property buyouts in the flood plain.
Austin Mayor Leffingwell says they hope to implement the funding as quickly as possible. The city of Austin has spent $36 and a half million on the project, including nearly $8 million from a FEMA grant.
This includes relocating over 300 households and developing a plan to restore Onion Creek to its natural habitat.
