ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -

The state Department of Transportation has fined CSX Railroad $10,000 for failing to report two oil train derailments within an hour of the accidents as required by state law.

A Feb. 25 derailment in Kingston involved empty rail cars that had been off-loaded of crude oil. A Feb. 28 derailment at the Selkirk train yard near Albany involved a train fully loaded with crude oil.

The cars remained upright and there were no spills in either incident.

Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald said Wednesday that CSX didn't notify DOT of the Selkirk derailment until two hours after it happened.

CSX didn't initially return a call seeking comment.

Oil trains have come under intense scrutiny after a series of disastrous accidents involving highly volatile North Dakota crude.

President Barack Obama is going on a fundraising sweep through New York and Rhode Island as he continues to help Democrats raise money for November's elections. Obama headlines three events on Friday. Two in Westchester County, and the third is in Newport, Rhode Island. The New York fundraisers will benefit the Democratic National Committee, which is still paying off debt from the 2012 campaign season.
