Falling asleep to a YouTube celebrity

New York City is known as the city that never sleeps. And for good reason: an estimated 40 percent of adults experience insomnia every single year.

Millions are now turning to the self-proclaimed 'sleep whisperer' on YouTube. It's not only Ilse Blansert's voice that's meant to lull you to sleep. She performs mundane tasks like painting her nails or talking you through an ear exam. If you think these videos are, um, unique, so were the answers when we asked New Yorkers how they fall sleep.

"I take a hot bath."

"I wait until there's nothing left on Instagram to watch."

"I rub VapoRub on myself."

Yes VapoRub -- the stuff you rub on your chest when you get sick. Perhaps that is not as weird as my habit of watching "real housewives" before bed.

To get those elusive 8 hours, experts say relax your mind. The advice is as old but clearly not as simple as just counting sheep.
