Police Seek Kensington Robber Who Struck Employee In The Face

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The employee fought valiantly, but was no match for the suspect who was determined to take some cash. However, the whole scuffle and the suspect's ultimate cowardly retreat was all captured on camera. Philadelphia's East Detectives Division is looking to identify the suspect caught on surveillance robbing the Cho Tac Ki Mini Market in Kensington.

On February 25, 2014, at 1:10 p.m., according to police, an unknown male entered the Cho Tac Ki mini market located on the 2500 block of Kensington Avenue. Once inside, the suspect approached an employee who was behind the checkout counter stating, "I have a gun, give me money," while simulating as if he had a weapon, police say.

The suspect then reached over the counter in an attempt to take cash; however, surveillance shows the employee not giving up so easily. As the employee struggled with the suspect, the suspect at first was losing his prize. Surveillance shows the suspect almost getting dragged onto the counter as the employee snatches the register away.

However, the suspect quickly changes his strategy and enters the employee side of the counter through a glass door, surveillance shows. He proceeds to strike the employee in the face, causing minor injury. After further struggle, the suspect finally is able to take an unknown amount of money from the cash register, says police. He then punches the employee again, surveillance shows, but you can tell he does not want any more of the scuffle because he slams the door glass door behind him. It's as if he's say, "I'm done. Just let me leave. I won't come back again." The suspect then flees the store by jumping out a rear second floor window, police say.

Here's the suspect description: Black male, early to mid-20 years-of-age, 6'0" and dark complexion. During the robbery, he was wearing a black skully hat, black jacket and black jeans.

If you see this suspect, do not approach him, instead contact 911 immediately, police say.
