Cosmetics Giant COVERGIRL is using star power in their new ad to rally girl power.
The campaign launched during the Sochi Olympics.
The campaign features female celebrities and sports stars talking about overcoming the naysayers.
"Girls can't," it starts with the various stars quoting.
"Sometimes you hear it, but more often you feel it," Ellen DeGeneres says.
Very soon, the mood shifts, and Queen Latifah says, "Yeah. Girls CAN!"
Then the various stars go on to describe what they do and how they ignored the people that doubted them.
"COVERGIRL knows that with every barrier she breaks, the world gets a little more easy breezy for the next girl," writes the company in the video description. The video has gotten almost a million views since being uploaded to YouTube on February 21.
"I love this so much because I am a young girl and I have played hockey for 4 years and I started on a boys girls team and I was the only girl and they all said I sucked because i was a girl but now im the top goal scorer on my team and im captain so this is a really motivational commercial :) thanks COVERGIRL." writes Brooklyn Morris.
However, another viewer criticized the use of celebrities in this video.
"All the women in this ad have conventionally ideal feature spacing, face: feature size ratios, facial symmetry, etc. And have lots of capital to fix those flaws if they need to. Most girls can't do that, and yet these celebrities are telling us to feel as empowered as they do..." comments Juni Xu.
One viewer took issue with the wording of the ad.
User Littleesecretss comments, "I would've liked it if they used a better word than 'girl' like lady or woman. it just makes us females seem more mature and knowledgeable than girls."
