Local crash survivor reclaims her life

Posted: Updated:
LITHONIA, Ga. -

One Stephenson High School student isn't allowing grief and hardship to conquer her -- and she has decided to commit her life to helping those who may be.

Nicole Mallett says people always introduce her as "that girl who's entire family was killed in that accident." Her mother, father and brother died in a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in 2012.

Now, two years later, Nicole is speaking out for the first time. And while she says that tragedy is a major story line in her life -- it is by no means the final chapter.

Click the video above to hear her compelling story.
