"There will definitely be a lot of scars," said Ellen Jefferson, with Austin Pets Alive.
She says there's no way of knowing who or what caused the burns on the lower half of this poor puppy's body.
"They're almost all on his abdomen and his belly and inside of his legs and actually, the outside of his back legs," said Ellen.
After being dropped off from another shelter, Austin Pets Alive is taking care of him and his injuries.
"It's possible it was some sort of fire or chemical burn, some sort of burn for sure," Ellen said. "He's on IV pain medicine. He's on IV antibiotics and then we'll need to wrap all of his wounds and keep them moist for several weeks to months so all that can heal."
This is only the third burn case they've ever come across.
"One we know was the little boy caught the dog on fire and it was similar to this. Another one we thought was a chemical burn, maybe poured on top of the dog. Those were several years ago," said Ellen. "He's seven months old. He's maybe a dachshund mix. He's probably going to be about 20 pounds when he's finished growing."
They're going to make sure he keeps all his legs and lives a long, happy life.
This pup's going to need months of expensive treatment.

Maybe you can help by providing a foster home for him.
Eventually, the little guy will be available for adoption.
