If you're looking for a full grown beard or mustache to admire, there is no shortage in Austin. This weekend, a competition will determine who has the best facial hair.
Jeff Raye has been growing this baby out for about 2 years. He will compete in the Austin Facial Hair Club's 8th "Come and Shave It" beard and mustache competition. More than 200 contestants from all across the country have signed up. Jeff tells us it's taken him a while to get his beard into tip-top shape.
"When I first started growing it out, by beard was going in all sorts of directions and I have to admit, I borrowed my wife's straightener there a bit but I don't have to use that anymore," says Raye.
Bryan Nelson, President of the Austin Facial Hair Club, tells us there will be 13 different categories in the competition. Judges look at the fullness and color of the facial hair, among other things.
"Some guys put curler in their beards. There are freestyle categories in some of these competitions where people have her beards out of her and there's bicycle wheels and moving parts. It's crazy," says Nelson.
The competition will be held at Mohawk and starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday. For more info you can go to www.austinfacialhairclub.com.
