CHANDLER, Ariz. -

Take a look at the video -- it's incredible footage.  Chandler police say a drunk driver drove his pickup truck right into a studio apartment, stopping only inches from where a valley couple was sleeping.

This happened in the area of Ray Road and Arizona Avenue Tuesday morning.

"We were asleep. It was around 2 a.m. We were asleep and all we heard was the bang. Something hit my head. That's when I went outside and saw the truck had crashed inside. That's it. I don't know what else happened," said Angela Romo.

Police say a Dodge pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Alexander Trujillo had just slammed into the exterior wall of their one-room apartment.

"I just asked what's happening and I was trembling like my wife," said Gambino Ruiz.

The truck had stopped feet away from a mattress the couple was sleeping on.  Debris, glass, pieces of truck were everywhere.

Romo suffered from cuts and was taken to a local hospital.

"My friend is out.. the lady is crying.. wow.. and they were like scared," said Alex Rodriguez, a witness.

Chandler police say the driver of the pickup truck was driving southbound through the alley west of the complex at about 45 miles per hour before crashing into the glass double doors.

"It was just scary," said Cindy Moreno, a neighbor.  Distraught over the scene she woke up to and says it literally hits too close to home.

"They've come up on my sidewalk already.. what stopped them was this."

The couple is grateful they are okay even though their home was destroyed.

Trujillo was also hospitalized for minor injuries and later arrested for DUI.

Several units surrounding the apartment were evacuated because of structural damage.
