Austin police say charges will soon be filed against the people captured in the fight that went viral last month. The police chief said that five of the six people have been identified.
The fight took place here on January 26th. Soon after, video popped up online and because of it, officers have put extra officers down here on weekend nights.
Chief Art Acevedo described the fight as two groups of people who had too much to drink, passed each other, exchanged words and broke into a fight. But it didn't stop there. Two people had their wallets stolen. Drugs were also taken.
Acevedo says five of the 6 "attackers" have been identified. They have a good lead on the 6th. All will be charged with assault with injury. One will have an additional charge of theft.
"They've been told as soon as we get the warrants signed, my message to them is just come on in. Turn yourself in and lets just get this behind you as soon as possible," said Chief Acevedo.
Chief said he is thankful the department got wind of the video. He'd still like to speak to the witness who shot it.
He warns anyone who goes downtown, gets drunk --people are watching you and you may show up on video. He says the department is adding more and more cameras daily.
