Suspect Caught On Camera Smashing Store Window

Posted: Updated:

The suspect brazenly smashed a window and tried to take money from a cash register. As an owner of a store, there's only a certain amount of preparedness in case of these situations, and even though the cash was not in the register in the overnight hours, the owner will still have to figure out a way to pay for the damage to the store. South Detectives Division has the suspect's face on surveillance and is looking to identify the brazen robber.

On February 1, 2014, at 12:3 am, according to authorities, an unknown male was captured on surveillance video gaining entry to 19 Degrees Cafe located on the 1800 block of Christian Street by throwing a brick to break the side door glass. Once inside, police say, the suspect went to the cash register and broke it open by throwing it on the floor. However, the register contained no money, police say. The suspect then took two cartons of Newport cigarettes and one carton of Marlboro cigarettes and then fled in an unknown direction, police say.

Here's the suspect description, according to surveillance and police: Black male, 30-40 years-of-age, with a goatee. During the robbery, he was wearing a knit hat, glasses, and a hooded jacket.

If you see this suspect, police say do not approach him. Instead, contact 911 immediately.
