City officials are on standby as winter weather is expected to hit the Central Texas area at some point Friday morning.
On Thursday, TxDOT began pre-treating some roads in South Austin in anticipation of snow and ice buildup causing slick roadway conditions. The city also has more than 40 dump trucks ready with gravel and de-icer to cover about two thousand miles of city-owned roads and 450 bridges across Central Texas.
TxDOT is offering some advice for drivers today:
If the roads are bad, stay off them
If you do have to drive, slow down and take extra precautions on bridges, shaded areas, overpasses and turns
